Making disciples who make disciples — it’s a process not a product.
Remember what Jesus said was the most important commandment and I’d say is the definition of a disciple?
“Love the Lord your God with all your heart, all your soul, all your mind and all your strength. And love your neighbour as yourself.”
Looking at that scriptural description of a disciple there is no point at which that is complete. Or as I like to sum it up, disciples are lovers and learners of Jesus — again NO end point in that is there?
No one ever arrives at the point where they are a finished disciple. They don’t come off an assembly line and get a shiny coat of paint and they’re done. Disciples are people in process.
Disciples of Jesus are people in love with Jesus and in the process of growing to be more like Him. Which we all agree is an unending journey this side of Heaven.
And they are people in process of building into other disciples. The process isn’t a singular one. It includes other people too.
Being a disciple isn’t about us. it’s about Jesus and His desire to reach out to others. So we grow and we help others grow and actually they help us grow too! We all grow in and toward Jesus. That’s discipleship.
